Contrary to what some naysayers of outsourcing are saying, the industry is alive and well, and it seems that it’s going to stay for a long while yet. As mentioned in a previous article, competition in outsourcing is becoming very stiff now, what with the industry expanding, as is what professional services firm Pricewaterhouse Coopers surmised in its Jan, 2010 report. Everyone wants a piece of the cake, but when everyone’s toting the same salver, it’s a bit difficult to decide to whom to give a piece to.

A day before the release of the 4^th quarter financial results of outsourcing company Convergys Corporation (NYSE:CVG), they announced plans to lay off many of its employees, without disclosing how many and which locations would be affected.

As the hosting country, this provides the Philippines with the golden opportunity to showcase its assets and advantages as a choice for outsourcing needs which includes geographical preference, cost and quality of labor.

In the midst of world financial crisis, what surprises people are no longer stories of company losses, layoffs, bankruptcies, and government bailout requests but stories of success. This month there has been more than enough layoffs and revenue losses talk even in the seemingly untouched outsourcing sector.
