The contact center industry continues to work its way towards the core of other industries, making it now an essential part of a company’s processes. As the contact centers today seem like an essential part of a company, especially for those in the retail industry, outsourcing companies that provide call center services now look at ways how to capture the growing demand for contact centers.

The call center industry has been present in the market for so many years already and its extensive presence in the industry has promoted innovation and expansion within the industry. This has brought about changes in the market, especially now that companies are constantly looking for ways on how to conduct their processes seamlessly and more efficiently. Part of its innovation as well, is the emergence of and virtual call centers and its acceptance into mainstream contact center processes.

Despite the news that Teletech (NASDAQ:TTEC) has recently reduced its manpower in an office in Amherst, Nova Scotia, it seems that the business process outsourcing industry is still booming with expansion plans. The global industry expansion is already moving forward and the key industry players have also been taking advantage of the global economy’s recovery.

Call center services are a mainstay in the outsourcing industry, thus it is hardly surprising that when broadcasting network, NBC, released the pilot for Outsourced, the show that it terms, ‘at once reverent and irreverent’, it featured the call center setting with the premise of the story being that the US order taking call center was moved offshore into India.  But while the plot of the show Outsourced is purely fiction, latest news among call center outsourcing companies do remind us that, no matter how loosely, Outsourced is still based on real life.

The Big Blue is making the state of Indiana and its residents see red. In a series of events that began with the signing of a very profitable outsourcing deal between the state of Indiana and technology outsourcing company IBM, the deal has now ended up with IBM (NYSE:IBM) filing a countersuit against Indiana late last week in an affair that began as, well, somewhat good, to bad and now, to worse.

Contrary to what some naysayers of outsourcing are saying, the industry is alive and well, and it seems that it’s going to stay for a long while yet. As mentioned in a previous article, competition in outsourcing is becoming very stiff now, what with the industry expanding, as is what professional services firm Pricewaterhouse Coopers surmised in its Jan, 2010 report. Everyone wants a piece of the cake, but when everyone’s toting the same salver, it’s a bit difficult to decide to whom to give a piece to.
