Philippines in the BPO Limelight
Tweet
“Not just a place to take a vacation”- that’s what the Philippines is now becoming with the trend of the BPO sector in the country. Right now the Philippines ranks 2nd in the offshore BPO services globally. The country would be hosting its first Outsourcing summit organized by the Business Processing Association of the Philippines (BPAP) where delegates from around the globe would be able to discuss the direction of the industry. As the hosting country, this provides the Philippines with the golden opportunity to showcase its assets and advantages as a choice for outsourcing needs which includes geographical preference, cost and quality of labor.
Furthermore, three major companies have had major developments to show further interest in the Philippines as a significant base of their operations and services.
First up is the International Business Machines Corporation (NYSE: IBM) which plans to upgrade its global delivery centre in the Philippines. Currently the country is IBM’s 4th highest earning site globally. Some of the services provided by here include consulting, IT application management and global technology services in the form of call center activities.
Accenture (NYSE: ACN) is starting to re-hire offset employees due to the global economic crisis. It is set to get back 20% of the 500 workers it had laid off recently and is looking at improving its revenue earnings by optimizing its IT resources.
Lastly Convergys Corporation (NYSE: CVG) announced the completion of its 5th site in San Lazaro, Manila. This new operations provides more job opportunities to accommodate the increasing demand of its services. The said center can house up to 740 employees.
In connection to an anticipated continued growth of BPO in the country, BPAP is eyeing Visayas, particularly Iloilo and Guimaras to be the next hubs for the BPO industry. This would provide for employment opportunities for graduating students in that area.
This is good news as developing other areas in the country would not only provide growth for the industry but to the region as well. This would allow for a continued development of areas that are feasible and success in such endeavours have a ripple effect in the community providing incentive for other local enterprises to grow as well and view the potential of other domestic locations. Also having another hub should help in stopping the continuous influx of graduates from those areas into Metro Manila. Hopefully, other parts of the country could be developed to accommodate BPO and other industries as well.

There are many places in the Philippines to visit other than Manila, Cebu City is a prime tourist as well as business destination. Possibly the oldest center of trade and commerce with the West in Southeast Asia region, Cebu is the home of opportunities that are both prized and proven.

Global business leaders IBM and Convergys should prove to be prime examples how talents for success can be harnessed in the Philippines.
The quality of human resources, the corporate culture, the infrastructure are at par with the requirments in the West, however at reduced cost which brings on best value for business.

This article is right in mentioning that there are still promising BPO frontiers in the Philippines, like Iloilo and Guimaras.
Investing into the trainable human resources the Visayas can offer is an opportunity to be well-considered.

Nice stuff here. i completely agree with this. Without much fun fare, global marketing and globe trotting, the Philippines became a natural choice and a preferred destination by Global Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) companies today. This phenomenon came about just through word of mouth from existing BPO players in the country. After setting their back offices in country BPO global players learned from their back office experiences how world class the Filipinos were when it comes to the voice services. BPO companies realized how Filipinos were excellent in their command of fluent English with a neutral accent. -Jaime-

I think that Philippines has what it takes to be the number 1 outsourcing hub in the world because of high-quality skills and work done. We hope that sooner, there will be more outsourcing companies to build and offer many jobs for the Filipinos.
